The LokSound 5 Fx is a special feature within the LokSound family: It has no motor output and is specially designed for use in driving trailers or power cars that require sound but do not have a model drive themselves. By omitting the motor part, it can still offer all the sound features of the other LokSound 5 members on a size of only 21.5mm x 15.5mm.
LokSound 5 Fx decoders are offered with an 8-pin interface according to NEM652 or a 21MTC interface and always come with an 11 x 15 mm "sugar cube" speaker along with a sound capsule kit.
Operating modes
Like all family members, the LokSound 5 Fx is a true multi-protocol decoder. It masters the data format DCC as well as Motorola®, Selectrix® and M4. In DCC format, 14 to 128 speed steps are as natural as 2- and 4-digit addresses and up to 32 functions. With the help of RailComPlus® technology, the decoder registers fully automatically with a suitable digital command station.
It masters all DCC programming modes and can be driven as well as programmed with compatible digital command stations: Thanks to RailCom®, a readout of the CV values on the main track is possible with suitable command stations. Auxiliary registers exist for command stations that can only program CVs from 1-255.
Motorola® users benefit from up to 28 speed steps with 255 addresses. Three additional Motorola® addresses allow the triggering of 16 functions. A built-in programming mode makes reprogramming possible even with the venerable Control Unit 6021.
The M4 protocol allows automatic registration with mfx®-compatible command stations. The LokSound 5 Fx decoder recognises Märklin® braking sections as well as ZIMO® HLU braking commands or the Lenz® ABC system. Also "braking" with DCC brake modules or with DC voltage is possible. Furthermore, it also stops with a Selectrix® brake diode. An ABC shuttle train automatic allows automatic shuttling between two stations.
The LokSound 5 decoder can be used on analogue DC and AC railways.
The decoder switches between the operating modes fully automatically "on-the-fly". Mostly nothing has to be set.
Sound
The LokSound 5 Fx decoder can play up to 12 channels simultaneously. Each channel can be resolved with up to 16 bit / 31250 kHz and offers HiFi quality on your layout. Practically no difference to the original is audible. A Class-D audio amplifier with up to 3W output power drives the speakers, which may have an impedance of between 4 Ohm and 32 Ohm. A 128 Mbit sound memory provides sufficient capacity.
The volume of all individual sounds can be adjusted individually. The super-flexible sound engine without a rigid schedule allows the prototypically accurate simulation of all conceivable rail vehicles.FunctionsThere are also some lights to be switched in the driving trailer or power car. Therefore we have equipped the LokSound 5 Fx with 6 amplified function outputs. The version with 21MTC interface has 6 additional outputs for controlling servos or logic level outputs. All important light functions are available. The brightness of each output can be adjusted separately.
Motor control
Although the LokSound 5 Fx has no motor output itself, it nevertheless "simulates" one. This serves for synchronisation with the motor car, where ideally a "full-fledged" LokSound 5 decoder is doing its job. In a train set, this ensures that the brakes squeal at the same time or that the lamps change direction at the same time.
Operational safety
If desired, a PowerPack can be connected to the LokSound 5 Fx for bridging dirty track sections.
Protection
Of course, the outputs are protected against overload. We want you to enjoy your decoder for as long as possible.
