MXULF and in particular MXULFA (the version with display) are more than simple decoder update devices; they were previously designed as small digital systems. The tasks include (software development level 6):
Loading new software versions (software update) from the USB flash drive in ZIMO decoders of all types (locomotive, function, accessory decoder), vehicle with decoder while it is on the "update track",
Synchronous update for built-in ZIMO accessory decoder generation MX820, MX821
Loading sound projects from the USB stick into the ZIMO sound decoder, vehicle at the "update track",
Fast audio input (approximately 2 - 3 minutes instead of 20 - 30 minutes) via the SUSI interface of the decoder
Parallel noise loads from multiple decoders via SUSI interfaces,
Driving & Functions switching for each address via the controls of the MXULF (scroll wheel, 4 buttons, LEDs) for testing the milled vehicle,
Programming and reading the CVs of the connected decoder or vehicle,
Register and check the charge code (CV # 260, ...) for coded sound projects
All these tasks can also be managed from the computer; then no USB stick is used, but all data (software update files, sound projects) are sent via the USB interface (client). On computer programs such as ZSP (ZIMO), ZCS (Manhart), PfuSch (Sperrer), u.a. used.
MXULF can be used as an inexpensive workplace system, in many respects it even applies to third-party decoders (obviously not related to software update and sound loading).
Control and display elements of the MXULF: 4 buttons, 1 scroll wheel and 8 two-color LEDs.
External connections: Screw terminals for power supply, rail (update track), "SUSI" plug, USB (client, on the computer), USB (host, for USB stick).
The decoder update package exists in two versions: MXULF and MXULFA. The difference lies in the display (2 x 16 characters), which is only installed in the MXULFA. However, the display is almost indispensable, especially in driving and programming mode.
The MXULF (A), including the connected vehicle, is powered by a voltage source (DC 10 - 16 V, AC 10 - 20 V). Therefore, there is no power supply included in the standard scope of delivery, but is available as an accessory if necessary.
